Pasco narrowed the Council Search to 4 Candidates

31st May. Pasco City Councilwoman Nikki Torres has surprised some people by resigning from her position that she has only held since the last election (2021).
Torres moved to another District in town
Torres moved to a new home in Pasco, but it was outside the District he represented, District 3 (north and some eastern parts of town). He also indicated that he is running for the 16th District State Senate Seat to be vacated by retiree Jim Honeyford (who endorsed his campaign). Torres will feel better if he resigns, because he will not live in the District where he was elected.
Today the city announced four candidates running from a number of applicants for the Council seat.
A total of 11 people applied for the position, and the last four candidates were, according to the City of Pasco:
- Zulema Abastillas
- Irving Brown, Sr.
- Ryan Jones
- Marianna Polyukh
The other seven who applied are:
- Brett Knapp
- Brent McGary
- Jack Merrill
- Leo Perales
- Stephen Persons
- Kate Smith
- Stan Smith
Although Torre’s seat is not ‘exhausted’ or expires until December 2025, according to state law, the person named in the seat must also run again in November 2023.
Monday, July 11, interviews for the four remaining candidates will be held at City Hall. They will start at 6 PM.
